Not all that glitters is gold : craft post!

hola! this is a DIY craft posttt.

I've been eyeing glitter brogues for sometime now and if you live in Malaysia,
you'll know that it's extremely difficult to get a pair here.
hence, I decided to make my own!
thanks to some craft blogs I found online.
if you're planning to make your own,
you can take a look at my improvised version here,
or you can also refer to the links below for some craft blogs I referred to before.

1. materials

a pair of old brogues (or if you could get a pair of unglittered new one it should be fine)
a huge packet of glitter. I chose red because I figured that it would go well with the white base I had.
a big paint brush
glue (i'll get there later on)
and some peach colored ribbons as shoelaces (I changed them to black later on)
newspapers (this is a super messy craft so spread lots of newspapers!)

*glue
if you refer to craft blogs online, you'll notice that they used Mod Podge,
which is extremely rare in Malaysia, and quite pricey as they're imported.
I used a different type of glue that can be found almost everywhere (as in Popular bookstores)

the only catch is that you may prefer to mix the glue with some water as it gets really sticky.

2. glitter and glue
there are two ways to do this,
first : the craft blogs way
that is to mix the glitter with the glue and apply them directly onto the shoe.
apply it a few coats until its thick and smooth.

the problem with this method is that the glue can sometimes dry very fast, wasting a lot of glitter.
also, it produced some very inconsistent results.
hence, this lead to the second method : my method.
that is to apply glue on the shoe then the glitter by pinches using your hand.
the only problem is that this method is very messy.
but the results satisfy me more than the first one.

do allow a 20-30 minute drying time in between layers
to ensure that your glitter is sealed and dried well.

3. final seal
do as many layers of glitter and glue as you like.
after you find it sufficient, the final touch is to apply two layers of glue on top.
this is to seal the glitter layers.
do remember to add some water to the glue mix.
you will not want the glue to be too sticky as this will cause some glitter to peel off.
again, remember to leave about 20 minutes drying time between the two layers of glue.

4. spray on
after that, leave the shoe fully dry for about a day.
the final step is to spray some clear spray on.
I did a couple of sprays (about 4).
and hence, the glitter brogues is done!

heads up : as easy as it may seem,
this is one messy and time consuming craft.
nonetheless, it was fun and satisfying at the end.
goodluck with your craft and do leave a comment if you have any questions.
xx
